Mark Zuckerberg has made a major announcement on Tuesday January 7th, which will have significant effects on two giant online platforms, Facebook and Meta.
Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he is reducing, almost eliminating Censorship on Facebook and Meta.
Back in August of 2024, Zuckerberg admitted to Congess and in a written statement, that the Democrats pressured his company in the past (Facebook and Meta) to censor free speech, which in effect could have possibly swayed the outcome of the 2020 U.S. elections. (PBS)
In an open statement, Zuckerberg said, “I believe the government pressure was wrong and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it,” Zuckerberg wrote in a letter dated Aug. 26 and posted on the committee’s Facebook page and to its account on X. (PBS)
Now fast forward to January 7th 2025, Zuckerberg has signed on Trump’s friend and ally, UFC owner Dana White to join the board of Meta. What does that mean? According to Mark Zuckerberg it means that he is focusing on changing Facebook’ s policies to eliminate Censorship, along with getting rid of extensive fact checking, and become a similar open platform as X (Twitter).
Over the past several years, Mark Zuckerberg, has been focusing and training in martial arts. Zuckerberg and UFC owner Dana White, have also become close since White has trained with Zuckerberg in martial arts.
NPR states, White and Zuckerberg, who has trained as a mixed martial arts fighter, have also become friendly. Zuckerberg praised White for building UFC into “one of the most valuable, fastest growing, and most popular sports enterprises in the world” in a Facebook post on Monday. “I’ve admired him as an entrepreneur and his ability to build such a beloved brand,” Zuckerberg continued.
“Meta said instead of working with third-party fact checkers, it would shift to a “community notes” program where users write and rate notes that appear next to specific posts. That’s similar to the approach Elon Musk has championed on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.” (NPR News)
Will Zuckerberg actually implement these new guidelines? We will have to wait and see.
