A viral image of Melania Trump on the cover of Vanity Fair, titled “The American Queen,” sparked excitement and confusion online.
But the cover was not real—it was created using artificial intelligence (AI) by a conservative YouTube channel.
Melania Trump also declined an actual offer from Vanity Fair to appear on the cover.
The Fake Cover: AI-Generated by Next News Network
The image, showing Melania Trump wearing a crown with the headline “The American Queen” and captions like “Melania Trump’s Silent Revolution,” was created by Gary Franchi of the conservative YouTube channel Next News Network.
On August 28, 2025, Franchi admitted on his YouTube show that he used AI to generate the image.
He claimed the fake cover was meant to highlight rumored internal drama at Vanity Fair after reports surfaced that the magazine’s new editor, Mark Guiducci, considered featuring Melania to appeal to a broader audience.
The image spread quickly on social media, with some, like Fox News host Laura Ingraham, initially sharing it before clarifying, “Real or not real…hilarious to read the Left’s reaction” on X on August 29, 2025.
Melania’s Rejection of the Vanity Fair Offer
In July 2025, Vanity Fair’s global an editorial director, reportedly reached out to Melania Trump to feature her on the magazine’s cover, aiming to broaden its readership after President Trump’s 2024 election win.
A source close to Melania told Page Six, “She laughed at the request and rejected it immediately. She doesn’t have time to be sitting in a photo shoot. Her priorities as First Lady are far more important… These people don’t deserve her anyway.” Melania’s decision reflects her focus on her role and her past experiences with fashion magazines, which she has criticized for bias. In 2022, she told Fox News, “They are biased, and they have likes and dislikes, and it’s so obvious… I have much more important things to do.”
Why the Fake Cover Was Created
The AI-generated cover was made by Next News Network to capitalize on reports of backlash from Vanity Fair staff.
On August 24, 2025, Semafor reported that Guiducci’s idea to feature Melania caused outrage among employees, with one mid-level editor telling the Daily Mail, “I will walk out the motherf***ing door, and half my staff will follow me… We are not going to normalize this despot and his wife.”
Franchi used this controversy to create the fake cover, posting on X on August 28, 2025, that “three senior editors threatened to resign” over the proposed cover, exaggerating the situation to provoke reactions.
The image gained traction among MAGA supporters, who saw it as a cultural win, while others, like California Governor Gavin Newsom, mocked it with a satirical AI-generated cover of himself as “The American King.”
Melania’s Foundations and Policy Priorities
As First Lady, Melania Trump has focused on initiatives that align with her interests in youth and education. Her flagship program, Be Best, launched during her husband’s first term, promotes children’s well-being, online safety, and combating opioid abuse.
In 2025, she expanded Be Best to include an AI challenge for students, encouraging them to use artificial intelligence creatively for positive impact, reflecting her interest in technology’s potential.
She also supports policies, such as stricter immigration enforcement and economic growth initiatives. In August 2025, she launched “On the Move,” a digital photo series showcasing her work as First Lady, emphasizing her active role despite her low public profile.
Melania has also been involved in fostering kid’s programs, working with organizations to support children in foster care, a cause she highlighted during her first term.
