Tennessee authorities recently released body camera footage from a 2022 traffic stop involving Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident whose deportation to El Salvador has sparked national debate.

The video, coupled with allegations of gang membership and a restraining order filed by his wife, has intensified scrutiny over his case. Here’s what you need to know about the footage, the restraining order, and the broader implications.

The 2022 Traffic Stop: What the Footage Shows

On Thursday, May 2, 2025, the Tennessee Highway Patrol released bodycam footage from a 2022 traffic stop involving Abrego Garcia. The video shows an interaction between troopers and Abrego Garcia, who was initially pulled over for speeding. He was driving eight other individuals, which led authorities to suspect possible human trafficking.

The Trump administration has cited this incident to support claims that Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang, a designated foreign terrorist organization.

The release of the video comes amid a legal battle over Abrego Garcia’s deportation. In March 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deported him to El Salvador’s notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT).

The Supreme Court has since ruled that his deportation was erroneous and ordered the U.S. government to facilitate his return, but the Trump administration has cited alleged gang ties.

More information – The Tennessee traffic stop was flagged in the National Crime Information Center database, which displayed a warning labeling Abrego Garcia as a suspected gang member or terrorist.

Restraining Order and Domestic Abuse Allegations

Adding complexity to the case, court documents obtained by ABC News reveal that in 2021, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, Abrego Garcia’s wife, filed a temporary protective order against him. She alleged physical abuse, including being slapped, hit with an object, and detained against her will and calling him a gang member.

The restraining order has also been linked to earlier accusations of gang membership. In 2018, Vasquez Sura’s ex-husband, Edwin Ramos, filed a custody petition accusing Abrego Garcia of being an MS-13 member.

The Gang Allegations: Fact or Fabrication?

The Trump administration and some media outlets have emphasized Abrego Garcia’s alleged MS-13 ties, pointing to a 2019 Maryland police report.

El Salvador’s Justice and Security Minister, Gustavo Villatoro, told The Telegraph that Abrego Garcia is being held in a low-security prison, not a gang-designated facility, because the U.S. provided no evidence of criminal history.

Broader Implications and Legal Battle

Abrego Garcia’s case has become a flashpoint in the debate over U.S. immigration policy. His attorneys argue he was denied due process, receiving no opportunity to contact his lawyer, wife, or child before deportation.

Federal Judge Paula Xinis has ordered the Trump administration to report efforts to return Abrego Garcia, criticizing their lack of compliance. Meanwhile, Democrats, including Senator Chris Van Hollen, have traveled to El Salvador to advocate for his release.

The release of the Tennessee bodycam footage and the resurfacing of the 2021 restraining order have fueled competing narratives about Kilmar Abrego Garcia.

Is he a dangerous gang member or a victim of mistaken identity and flawed policing? Watch the raw footage and decide for yourself.

Why won’t CNN and MSNBC ever show this body cam footage? Why do certain news outlets omit basic facts so you can make your own decision?

As legal proceedings continue, the truth remains to be seen. No media news outlet knows the ultimate truth. Only Abrego Garcia knows.

Here is body cam footage where you can make your own decision based off what you see. The truth does not have bias. Here is raw footage of the truth. It’s up to you to figure it out. Not your favorite news broadcaster and t.v. screen. Sometimes, it’s not clear cut.

On one side, he is a father and husband, on the other hand, he was involved in something more that may have been beyond his control, is he a victim of MS-13, or a willing participant, or both?
