Justin Trudeau has declared his intention to resign from his position as Prime Minister of Canada.
At a press conference on Monday, the 53-year-old leader indicated he would continue in his role until the party selects a new leader. He noted his plans to step down as leader of the party and as prime minister following this transition.
(Newsweek) Describing himself as a “fighter” who struggles to retreat from challenges, Trudeau shared with reporters that he recognized the difficulty of securing a victory in the upcoming election while contending with internal strife within his party.
His commitment to fight for Canadians has always driven him, but he emphasized that in the context of internal disputes, he could not effectively represent his party in the next election. The nation deserves a genuine choice, and he believes that his ongoing battles would hinder that objective.
Since taking office in 2015, Trudeau’s popularity has diminished, particularly due to the increasing cost of living and escalating inflation. His fellow Liberal Party members had been pressing for his resignation, especially as polling indicated a significant risk of defeat to the opposition Conservatives in the forthcoming election.
Donald Trump, president elect, has previously criticized Trudeau for his policies that have caused inflation and price increases in Canada. Is Trump part of the reason that Trudeau is resigning? Have Canadian citizens become more aware of Trudeau’s poor policies? Which in turn influenced Trudeau to resign? Here is a recent statement from Trump.
“Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State. The United States can no longer suffer the massive Trade Deficits and Subsidies that Canada needs to stay afloat,” Trump posted. “Justin Trudeau knew this, and resigned.”
