Lawsuits against the mismanagement of the California wildfires have started; Spencer and Heidi Pratt’s legal case against L.A. after their home burns down

Reality T.V personalities, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have initiated law suit against the city of Los Angeles and the Department of Water and Power (LADWP) following the destruction of their home in the recent Pacific Palisades fire.

Filed in the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles County, the lawsuit contends that the fire resulted from poor water supply management practices by the city and LADWP.

The legal documents cite the Santa Ynez Reservoir in the Palisades, noting it has been the reservoir has been working since February 2024 due to pending repairs.

The couple alleges that the LADWP continued to manage the water supply even though it was not working properly, allegedly to cut costs.

In the aftermath of the wildfires that began on January 7, challenges related to water pressure have garnered significant attention.

Officials admitted there were difficulties caused by an overwhelming demand for water in the area.

Additionally, Spencer’s sister, Stephanie, revealed on social media that their parents’ home was also lost in the same fire mere hours after Spencer and Heidi’s residence was destroyed.

The lawsuit states that the Santa Ynez Reservoir required maintenance due to a tear in its floating cover, and it argues that the hydrants in Pacific Palisades failed after three large tanks, each holding a million gallons, ran dry within just 12 hours.

Criticism from community leaders, including Gus Corona of the IBEW Local 18 union, supports the lawsuits’ claims. He labeled the reservoir’s year-long emptiness for minor repairs as “unacceptable,” stating that the work could have been efficiently handled by in-house staff rather than external contractors.

The law suit states that the existing water system was insufficiently designed to handle wildfire emergencies, reinforcing their claims against the city’s infrastructure issues.

“Without water from the reservoir, firefighters had to primarily rely on the water tanks, which were not designed to fight such a large fire, the complaint said.” (ap news)
