A wave of store closures continues to impact San Francisco, as several retailers shut their doors in the bustling city. Notably, Michael Kors has announced its departure from the San Francisco Centre shopping mall located in downtown. (Fox News)
This luxury brand has communicated to customers that it has enjoyed the experience of “sharing the best with you at Michael Kors San Francisco,” as reported by SFGate.
In a recent update, the Michael Kors store is no longer listed among the establishments in the San Francisco Centre directory, and the brand’s official website has also removed the San Francisco location. Shoppers visiting the mall near Union Square will find a notice on the store’s entrance indicating, “This store is closing soon, but we hope you’ll visit us at” another Michael Kors outlet in Santa Clara. The closure of the Michael Kors location adds to a growing list of retailers that have exited the San Francisco Centre in recent years—Adidas, American Eagle, J. Crew, Madewell, Aldo, Nordstrom, and L’Occitane have all left the mall.
Despite these departures, the mall still hosts a variety of brands, including Aritzia, Bath & Body Works, Coach, Kate Spade, Rolex, Ray-Ban, and Tumi, according to its online directory.
In June, the shopping center revealed that seven new leases had been signed, which included five retail and two office spaces, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Additionally, news broke from Bloomingdale’s confirming that the iconic department store at San Francisco Centre is set to close in spring 2025.
San Jose also faces challenges, as it ranks fourth in the U.S. for the homeless population per capita, attributed to a range of ongoing issues. (abc7news.com)
“New data released by the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing found that 51% of the city’s homeless population now suffers from psychiatric or emotional conditions, a 15% increase since 2022.” (sfstandard.com)
Could the local or state government policies be the reason for the issues facing San Francisco and California, or are there other unforseen problems in California causing the homelessness problems? Comment below.
