
When migrants or immigrants, enter New York City, they receive a debit card for food and basic necessities, on top of a housing at selected tax payer funded hotels designated for migrants.
Critics, including New York Council member Joseph Borelli, have argued that the debit cards are “fundamentally unfair” to the city’s working poor, who don’t receive similar benefits from the city.
Some GOP Congress have stated that these debit cards and free housing have encouraged illegal immigrant to flood the city of New York.
“Preloaded Mastercards were given out at the city’s intake center at the Roosevelt Hotel to cover the cost of groceries and baby supplies, with a migrant family of four receiving approximately $350 a week under the initiative.” Stated NewsMax.
“Rolled out in late March after signing the contract in January, the Post reported that the city has distributed some $3.2 million in prepaid debit cards to about 2,600 migrant families.” (NewsMax)
The major of New York said with the year being nearly over, new contracts for these debit cards will not be renewed. The major did not give a specific reason on why he made this decision .
