Tom Homan serves as the border czar. He hinted at the possibility of an investigation into Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Critics raised concerns that her recent actions to obstruct deportations for undocumented immigrants might violate federal law.
Ocasio-Cortez took to X on Thursday, asserting, “Believe it or not, in America EVERYONE has rights,” while sharing resources outlining the legal protections available to undocumented immigrants.
In response, Homan questioned whether her actions amounted to obstruction of immigration enforcement.
He mentioned that he reached out to the Department of Justice to seek clarity on whether her initiatives could be deemed unlawful interference.
“I sent an email to the Deputy Attorney General today… at what point does that become an impediment?” Homan questioned.
He further deliberated on whether her actions could hinder law enforcement operations and what ramifications might follow if she indeed crossed legal boundaries. “I’m coordinating with the DOJ to uncover the truth. Maybe AOC will face consequences from this,” he speculated.
Ocasio-Cortez countered his remarks by urging Homan to familiarize himself with the U.S. Constitution.
Conducting webinars focused on immigration is within legal limits. However, actively encouraging individuals to elude law enforcement could present legal dilemmas.
