A federal judge in New York, Paul Engelmayer, has issued a ruling that restricts access to Treasury Department data for political appointees of Trump, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
On Saturday January 8th, Engelmayer blocked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from obtaining Treasury records.
Appointed by Barack Obama, Judge Engelmayer mandated that individuals who have been barred from accessing sensitive data since January 20 are required to immediately delete any copies of materials sourced from Treasury Department systems. A hearing is scheduled for February 14.
This ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed by 19 Democratic attorneys general, who contend that the DOGE is attempting to access government data to facilitate initiatives aimed at obstructing federal funds.
A user on the social platform X has claims that Trump’s legal team was not notified and thus had no chance to participate in the proceedings, while only Democratic Attorneys General were allegedly permitted to present arguments.
