Pam Bondi suing New York and Gov. Kathy Hochul for aiding in illegal immigration

The Trump administration and Pam Bondi have initiated a lawsuit against New York State, and Governor Kathy Hochul along with Letitia James for allegedly violating federal immigration regulations by offering protections to illegal immigrants, as announced by newly appointed Attorney General Bondi on Wednesday February 12th.

During a press conference, Bondi revealed that the Department of Justice has filed a civil lawsuit in the Northern District of New York, claiming that both Kathy Hochul and Lelita James, who are members of the Democratic Party, have neglected to uphold federal immigration laws.

Bondi emphasized a shift in the DOJ’s approach, declaring that New York has decided to protect illegal immigrants over its own citizens. She asserted, “It stops. It stops today.”

The legal action specifically challenges the state’s “Green Light Law,” enacted in 2019, which permits undocumented immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.

New York’s legislation also prohibits looking into Illegal immigration status, and restricts the DMV from sharing personal information with federal authorities or law enforcement unless there is a court order.

According to the complaint, immigration officials rely on these records for various operations from border checks to arrest executions, and the law diminishes their ability to assess real-time situations and the individuals they encounter.

Bondi mentioned that the suit also includes New York Attorney General Letitia James and Mark Schroeder, who heads the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

During her statements, Bondi reiterated the DOJ’s commitment to safeguarding American citizens, asserting that New York’s Green Light Law unnecessarily hinders law enforcement, putting officers in more perilous and unpredictable situations.

Violent gangs have been on the uprise in the New York area in recent years.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office revealed that 10 illegal migrant gang members have been indicted for their involvement in a gun trafficking scheme operating within Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.

These suspects are believed to be connected to the ‘Tren de Aragua’ gang. Operation Train Derail, an agency dedicated to safety, and authorities confiscated 34 firearms and nearly 50 grams of a substance known as “pink cocaine.” Moreover, investigators thwarted an attempt by the defendants to ship guns to Colombia, aiming for greater profits from their illegal sales.

The accused are affiliated with the Venezuelan gang ‘Tren de Aragua,’ which has reportedly begun recruiting kids to engage in criminal activities throughout the city’s five boroughs.

According to the Queens DA’s office, most of the individuals charged have only been in the country since 2023.
